Storymakers: A Creative Challenge for Young Writers
Storymakers: A Creative Challenge for Young Writers invites students in sixth, seventh, and eighth grades living in Washington State and British Columbia, Canada, to submit their own original creative writing pieces. Entries can include fiction, non-fiction, poetry and prose not to exceed 1000 words.
Thirty top winners will receive a prize package and an invitation to a Creative Expressions Workshop at the KCTS 9 studios, complete with lunch, writing workshops, and a ceremony hosted by local young adult author Kevin Emerson. Select winners from each grade will have the opportunity to attend writing workshops and classes presented by community partner literary organizations.
We want to hear from all young writers--creativity counts more than spelling! Every entry will be honored with a signed Certificate of Achievement by Kevin Emerson. To get started, please download a rules form and entry form. Included for your reference is a rubric on the Six Traits of Writing, which are the categories on which entries will be judged.
Please visit the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction for more information on Writing Instructional Support Modules and Online Grade Level Resources.
All entries must be postmarked by February 4, 2009. For more information, please call 1.800.930.6060 or e-mail learning@KCTS9.org
Storymakers: A Creative Challenge for Young Writers is sponsored by KCTS 9, with major funding provided by the Qwest Foundation.
